Henry Schein Cares Foundation Provides Oral Health Supplies in El Salvador through AmeriCares
April 2012 — The Henry Schein Cares Foundation donated oral hygiene supplies to AmeriCares, a disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization. For the past 30 years, AmeriCares has provided more than $10 billion of medicines, medical supplies and other relief in 164 countries.
More than one third of Salvadorans live below the poverty level and rural communities suffer poor living conditions and a lack of extensive public health care. In October 2003, AmeriCares opened its first international family health clinic, La Clínica Integral de Atención Familiar, in Santiago de María. In 2011, the Clinic saw 50,000 patients.
La Clínica Integral de Atención Familiar offers health education programs to individuals who seek treatment from the clinic as well as within the surrounding community. These health promotion and prevention activities cover over 30 topics and have been attended at the clinic by nearly 30,000 individuals over the last three years. In addition to programs offered onsite, clinic staff provided services in the community at local health fairs and visits to local schools. The donation of oral health care supplies will enhance this programming going forward.
Henry Schein, Inc. continues to provide an ongoing supply of health care supplies to AmeriCares through the Company’s Global Product Donation Program.
