From the Chair

Welcome to our Web site!

Through the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, we promote oral, medical, and animal health and seek to "help health happen" by expanding access to care for at-risk and underserved populations globally through the support of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), institutions, and communities dedicated to increasing the delivery of health education and care.

This Web site highlights the important focus of the Henry Schein Cares Foundation. Today, it is well known that disparities are pervasive in health care. The work of the Henry Schein Cares Foundation targets those with some of the most limited access to care through attention to three strategic areas: wellness, prevention, and treatment; emergency preparedness and relief; and capacity building.  Through our public-private partnership model, the Henry Schein Cares Foundation seeks to mobilize partners – including the health care industry, NGOs, professional associations, and Team Schein Members – to work together as positive agents for change in communities around the world.

Wellness, Prevention, and Treatment
Everyone would agree that it is better to prevent a disease than to wait for it to appear and then treat it. We believe that paying special attention to promoting health and wellness for the underserved now will have a tremendous impact on the quality of life that individuals can enjoy in the long run.  The Foundation also seeks to strengthen partnership opportunities between the dental and medical communities to position oral health care as a vital part of primary health care, one of the most important health care issues of our time.

Emergency Preparedness and Relief
Sadly, we expect that our planet will continue to be plagued by emergencies and disasters, including hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and pandemics. The Henry Schein Cares Foundation seeks to support planning and preparation before disasters occur through close coordination with our non-governmental organization (NGO) partners. We also react quickly when disaster strikes, as we demonstrated by shipping $1 million of supplies to Haiti after the earthquake in January 2010 and our subsequent responses to disasters that have followed.

Capacity Building
Finally, we recognize that one of the key ways to ensure the best health care for communities is by focusing on ways to enhance the infrastructure of dental, dental lab, medical, and veterinary schools; to promote centers that highlight the latest technologies; and to convene professionals to advance their skills.

The Henry Schein Cares Foundation also takes special pride in collaborating with Team Schein to sponsor the Back to School and Holiday Cheer for Children programs.  Both of these lift the spirits and increase the confidence of underserved children in our local communities.

We encourage you to explore this new site and learn more about our work.  As you do, please let us know what you think.
